Our Focus: Travel Law
As the 21st Century nears, Canada's travel trade is more than ever before
international, competitive and complicated. Uncontrollable events such as
unrest, violence, terrorism, health threats and the uncertain performance
of Suppliers, plague the travel agent. Compounding the agent's concerns is
the fact that travellers are often upset with events that take place beyond
the control of the agent and its Supplier(s). Aggrieved consumers then expect
compensation for real or imagined consequences, regardless of the perpetrator.
Ownership of Suppliers change frequently. New owners take over formerly well
known Suppliers. Often the head office moves outside Canada, making it increasingly
difficult for agents to identify "the good from the bad", "the sound from
the unsound".
It is the aim of this text to provide guidance as to the legal aspects of the widening world of travel.
